The Final Chapter!
At Oasis English Language School we are about to begin our 6th 10 week course, our 6th term of lessons. We are thrilled with all that we are seeing God do in us and through us in this adventure.
We have witnessed remarkable provision in terms of finance (as I write we are have just been promised all the money we need for Year 3), in numbers of volunteers, (8 teachers, 6 creche workers, 2 kitchen staff) and in the diversity of students we have had the privilege of getting to know.
And how have we done with our New Year Resolutions (featured in my last blog post)?
1. To invest in our volunteers more.
We had a great time with this.
One of our plans for the next few months is to use the Friendship First Course, inviting all our volunteers and prayer supporters to join us if they would like to learn more about ordinary Christians sharing faith conversations with ordinary Muslims.
Teachers, creche workers and trustees participated in this course. We were thrilled to be learning together, to be exploring new ideas for Oasis Extra Events, to see the potential of genuine friendship with our Muslim student friends and others. We look forward with a lovely sense of anticipation to the friendship building opportunities we have planned for the summer months.
2. To give more Churches a better understanding of all that is Oasis.
It is a joy to be invited to speak in different churches around Ipswich. I’ve really enjoyed the opportunities I’ve had to see the similarities and the differences in our worship styles as I’ve shared the news of Oasis English Language School in Baptist, Anglican, Independent, Methodist and International churches this year…and there are more to come! To share our vision and to hear others praying in response is a blessing indeed.
3. To begin to ‘grow our own’.
One of the grants we applied for was specifically so that we could encourage, and support, key people in their TEFL studies. We are looking forward to Bela, the first of our newly qualified teachers, joining us this week. We want to go on to support 1 or 2 potential teachers in this way each year.
More than a year ago this blog began with a question, “Do you like a good story?” Thank you for reading the story of Oasis English Language School. The story is not ending…but the Blog is. It has been fun to share some of the hi-lights and some of my questions with you as I’ve pondered the way forward over the last 2 years.
I look forward to all that is to come.
